i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
May. 4th, 2006 01:37 amAn interesting thing has apparently been going around...a relay bot mines LJ for AIM screen names and connects two random users with the phrase "i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?" Each person thinks the other person sent the first IM, and IMs to the masking screenname of the bot are sent on to the connected person.

It's pretty crazy. There's a whole community for people've been tagged by this hat guy, the so-called "HatMaster." I have no idea whether each query about the hat connected me to a different person or the same each time.
There's apparently another bot going around as well...and some people have even replied to things they said themselves in previous conversations with the bot. It's a little freaky.
